Brief Description
In November 2023, Jamaica launched the National Strategy for Shelters and Other Safe Spaces for Survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and the Comprehensive Guidelines for the Operationalization of Gender-Based Violence Helplines. These measures were developed to guide providers of safe spaces and helpline operators in aligning all operations with national policies, Jamaica’s legal framework, and international standards for GBV services. Emphasizing a survivor-centred approach, the strategy and guidelines encourage both public and private entities to develop robust protocols and procedures for daily management of shelters and helplines, ensuring effective, accessible, and quality support for survivors of GBV.
